It’s important that you stay hydrated and healthy this summer. The more you sweat the more your body demands fluids to replace those lost through your sweat.

While it’s always good to go for pure water sometimes you’re going to want something a little more flavorsome. Unfortunately those fruity and flavorsome summer drinks are also filled with sugar and chemicals that can damage your health and, worse, leave you still dehydrated. There are still plenty of great summer drink choices you can make though. It’s possible to enjoy a cool and refreshing summer drink without loading up on calories, chemicals, and sugar.

Summer Hydration Tips

It’s essential that you stay hydrated this summer. Water can help keep toxins out of the body. Here’s how to stay hydrated.

  • Drink something 30 minutes before or 60 minutes after eating so that you don’t dilute those gastric juices your body uses to digest food
  • Avoid drinking beverages designed to replace electrolytes, soft drinks, and other sugary drinks and drinks filled with chemicals. Don’t drink them at all. Any of them.
  • Don’t forget to take water with you when exercising
  • If you aren’t sure if you’re dehydrated then check the color of your urine. If you have amber colored pee then you need to drink more water.
  • Another reason to stick with water is that alcohol, along with caffeinated and sugary drinks dehydrate you and leave you thirstier
  • Don’t follow a fad diet like the ones you see on TV
