How Olive Oil Can Help You Lose Weight and Belly Fat
Many people believe that eating any kind of fat is going to cause you to gain weight but that’s not always the case. There are fats that cause different effects on the body. There are some fats, such as olive oil, that can actually help you lose weight.
Olive oil is a staple in the Mediterranean diet and it’s a healthy fat that can aid weight loss. Most of the best diets for weight loss are based on the Mediterranean diet, which itself is one of the best diets there is. These are diets that contain plenty of fish and vegetables that are cooked with olive oil.
But how does a diet where up to a third of the calories come from fat actually help people lose weight? A study from the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition in July tells us just how olive oil helps you lose weight.
Monounsaturated Fats vs Polyunsaturated Fats
Which type of fat you eat has a major effect on whether you gain or lose weight. Monounsaturated fats are the kind of fats found in nuts, avocados and olive oil. These fats are the healthy kinds of fats and are healthier than the polyunsaturated fats you find in red meat and sunflower oil.
The study from Europe looked at the cooking habits of people and their weight. They also took samples of the cooking oils to see whether their food was prepared using olive oil or sunflower oil. The participants that used olive oil were healthier than the ones who used sunflower oil.
The more monounsaturated fats you eat compared to polyunsaturated fats the lower your risk of being obese. Even though you might take in more calories with olive oil you’re still left with a smaller chance of being overweight.
The Power of Olive Oil
One study shows there are three main effects of the healthy monounsaturated fats that help you stay slim.
1.Healthy Fats Keep You Full
The kinds of healthy fats you find in olive oil help to keep hunger at bay so you eat less during the day and take in less calories.
2. Olive Oil Breaks down Fat
One of the things that olive oil does is break down the fat in the fat cells that form your fatty body mass. This is a process known as lipolysis. Stimulating lipolysis in this manner is important if you want to reduce your body fat percentage.
3. Olive Oil Boosts Your Metabolism
The third and final main effect of olive oil is that it boosts your metabolic rate. Enhancing your metabolism in this manner means that more calories are burned during the day; even if you’re resting.
The results are in and to put it simply olive oil reduces obesity. Most people who use olive oil, no matter their age, race, or sex, tend to weigh less than those who don’t. Olive oil can help you lose weight no matter your background or current weight. So start cooking with olive oil or, if you really want to, drinking a tablespoon of olive oil three times a day about an hour before your meals.
